Memorial Community Fund
Maria Marcelo was the president and founder of Madre-A-Madre, and the community engagement director of Healing Grove Health Center. Maria died in a tragic accident on 12/7/22, in the line of duty leading a Rosary procession as a part of the 9 day Virgin de Juqulia tradition. Maria Marcelo is survived by her daughter Maria Hernandez and her two sons, Jesus Hernandez and David Hernandez and her husband Francisco Hernandez.
Maria's grown children have requested that we establish the Maria Marcelo Memorial Community Fund which will fund Maria's vision for community building in the downtown San Jose Washington Guadalupe Community. Specifically, the family has requested that these funds be used to fulfill Maria's dream of activating the Washington United Youth Center. The Youth Center has been underutilized for a decade; Maria's dream was to see the youth center filled with thriving community.
